According to the updated circulation statistics for 2008 issued by the Finnish Audit Bureau of Circulations, the country’s two late-edition tabloids lost a number of their readers last year.
      According to the survey, the circulation of Iltasanomat (-8.4 %), published by Sanoma News, the leading media group in the Nordic countries, averaged 161,615, while Alma Media’s Iltalehti (- 6.6 %) had 122,548 buyers.
     
Among general interest newspapers, the readership of Alma Media’s commerce-oriented newspaper Kauppalehti enjoyed the biggest growth, namely 6.5 %.
      The circulation of the weekly newspaper Vihreä Lanka (”Green Thread”) and that of the rural newspaper Maaseudun tulevaisuus also increased.
     
The largest newspaper by circulation continues to be Helsingin Sanomat, even though its readership declined by almost 2 % in 2008.
      The paper's average circulation was 412,421, with the Sunday edition enjoying a rather larger circulation, in execess of 460,000.
     
Among general interest periodicals, Apu lost 11.2 % of its circulation, while the readership of the more gossipy Hymy grew by 11.8 %.
