A joint Finnish-Swedish patrol came under fire in Northern Afghanistan on Thursday. According to the Finnish Defence Forces, none of the peacekeepers were wounded in the skirmish.
The patrol was on its way from Darzab in the south towards the city of Sheberghan, when it was fired on early in the evening local time. The patrol returned fire in self-defence.
The firefight lasted about ten minutes, after which the patrol continued to travel towards Sheberghan.
Finland is one of 47 countries taking part in the NATO-led ISAF crisis management operation. About 180 Finnish soldiers are currently serving in Afghanistan.
