Good news for those who have long since tired of the Canary Islands and are already getting a bit bored with Thailand and other Far East destinations. The Finnish travel agency Area has announced that it will start selling tickets for space trips organised by Virgin Galactic, the world’s first spaceline.
Non-professional astronauts will have to pay a total of USD 200,000 or about EUR 155,000 for a flight into space.
The trips will be launched from New Mexico in 2011. A year later, it will also be possible to depart from Kiruna in Sweden.
A total of 300 excursions have already been booked. Among customers are citizens from 40 different countries, but so far no Finns have been willing to participate in the uplifting experience.
The flight will take only a couple of hours, but prior to the trip a 3-day training session will be arranged.
The spacecraft will rise to a height of 110 kilometres and will permit passengers to experience weightlessness for up to 6 minutes.
