An automatic fire alarm system will be installed in the President's summer residence Kultaranta, located in Naantali.
The local fire safety inspector recommended that the new equipment be installed after performing an inspection earlier in the summer. Up until now, one of the country's most valuable buildings has been protected by simple fire alarms attached to the ceilings of the villa's rooms.
The automatic fire alarm system will notify the nearest rescue service if a fire breaks out.

The upgrade to Kultaranta's fire safety systems was also recommended in a similar inspection last summer. In addition to improving the safety of the residents of the villa, the automatic fire alarm system helps fire trucks get on their way several minutes faster.
An application for an appropriation to purchase the new fire alarms was sent on Thursday to the Ministry of Finance, where next year's budget is currently being planned. The ministry immediately agreed to the request; the new system will cost over 80,000 euros.
The Ministry of Finance had already allocated 500,000 euros in the 2005 budget for the renovation of the President's residences.
