Five men remanded in custody over Turkish Embassy firebombing
Five men in their 20s have been remanded in custody on suspicion of involvement in last Tuesday’s firebombing of the Turkish Embassy. The remand order was handed down by Helsinki District Court.
The five are suspected of perpetrating an act of destruction, punishable by between four months and four years imprisonment.
Police say that one or more bottles of a flammable liquid were thrown at the door of the Turkish Embassy in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The arrests were made on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Markku Stenberg of the Helsinki Police did not want to comment on possible motives for the attack, or if there were any more suspects. The Turkish Embassy suspects that the Kurdish PKK organisation might be behind the firebombing.
