The food manufacturer HK Ruokatalo is concentrating its meat processing operations in Forssa, and moving its logistics and ground meat production to Vantaa. As a result, 117 workers and 7 office employees are to be let go at the company's Tampere facility.
Co-determination talks involving the company's Tampere employees, which began in February this year, have now been brought to a conclusion. About 40 employees will get work in the company's other factories, or have sought work outside the company.
Production at the HK Tampere facility will come to an end in late March, 2008. Shutting down the Tampere operation is a part of an extensive development programme of the company's industrial structure, aimed at improving competitiveness.
As part of the same programme, HK Ruokatalo is also cutting out 155 factory workers and 12 office employees in Turku, because the company is closing down food production in that city.
