Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja (SDP) says that Russia’s views on possible changes on its border with Finland have not budged at all.
Tuomioja was responding to a question by MP Risto Kuisma (SDP) on the restoration to Finland of areas ceded to the Soviet Union after the Continuation War (1941-1944).
Tuomioja also said that the government’s stand on the issue is unchanged: Finland does not have any territorial demands toward Russia.
The borders have been confirmed by the Paris Peace Treaty of 1947, and in a Finnish-Russian treaty of 1992.
"In principle we cannot rule out the possibility that there might be negotiations from a new basis on the territories ceded to the Soviet Union, or their use, if Russia is ready for it", Tuomioja said.
