According to the German online newspaper Motorsport, the former double Formula One world champion Mika Häkkinen and his wife Erja Häkkinen are getting a divorce.
The news was confirmed by Häkkinen’s manager on Wednesday evening. According to the statement, the divorce was ”amicable”.
The news did not report whether or not the divorce is already valid or whether the pair had just separated.
The Häkkinens have two children, a seven-year-old son Hugo and a daughter Aina, who is two.
From 1991 to 2001 Mika Häkkinen competed in Formula One, winning the World Drivers' Championship title in both 1998 and 1999 with the McLaren team.
In 2005 Häkkinen made a racing comeback in the German touring car series DTM, but he announced his retirement from competitive motorsport last autumn.
