Green League chairwoman Tarja Cronberg, 63, was unanimously chosen for a second two-year term at the party's congress in Espoo during the weekend.
The 63-year-old Cronberg, who serves as Minister of Labour in the new four-party coalition government, said that her aim in next year's municipal elections is to get at least one Green into the local councils of 50 municipalities where there are no Greens.
The Green League has council members in just 120 of Finland's more than 400 municipalities.
In the previous municipal elections in 2004 the Greens suffered a slight setback.
Cronberg said that success in the government and in the development of the party and its strategy was also a challenge, and a goal.
The Greens also named a new party secretary, 35-year-old Panu Laturi, who warned of the danger of excessive infatuation with the idea of being in the government, which could turn the Greens into an "administrator party". He said that if party leaders and ministers start to slip from the party's goals, the party's leaders and government ministers can face criticism.
While Cronberg was re-elected without any competition, the Greens implemented a complete overhaul among the vice chairs of the party amidst close voting.
This time, young representatives of the Helsinki area came out ahead. The three new vice chairs are 30-year-old Helsinki MP Johanna Sumuvuori, followed by Helsinki engineer, 27-year-old Mari Puoskari, the head of the Greens' women's organisation, and third was Espoo MP Jyrki Kasvi, 43.
