The President of Finland Tarja Halonen and the Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson will travel to St. Petersburg, Russia, on September 22nd. The Nordic leaders have been invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin to take part in the opening ceremony of the new southwestern wastewater treatment plant in St. Petersburg.
      The plant is a primary undertaking of the EU Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership programme.
      The installation is capable of processing the effluent of 700,000 city residents, and it is expected to have a great impact in the reduction of pollution in the Gulf of Finland and the entire Baltic Sea area.
