Hannes Heikura again chosen as Press Photographer of the Year

Helsingin Sanomat staff photographer Hannes Heikura, 49, has again been selected as Press Photographer of the Year. This was his third success in winning this accolade, and the fifth time one of his pictures has been chosen as Press Photo of the Year.
      The photograph, which also won the popular vote, was a helicopter shot of blue-green algae forming a sludgy raft in the Gulf of Finland, through which a small yacht can be seen ploughing a path.
      Heikura scooped the pool this year, as his picture was also deemed best in the popular vote and was runner-up in the News Photo of the Year category.
     
The image, and others chosen by the judges, is shown below. The actual photograsphs are on display in Tampere until April 14th, after which they will be shown at the luova.fi gallery in Helsinki from May 3rd until June 1st. They can also be seen on the Net at the link below.
