Finnish designer Harri Koskinen will be in the Röhsska Museum of Fashion, Design and Decorative Arts in Gothenburg today to receive the 2009 Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize.
The value of the Swedish award is one million Swedish krona, or around EUR 96,000 at current values.
The prize is regarded as one of the largest and most significant design awards in the world, and also includes a restrospective exhibition, which will be held in the Röhsska Museum from November 5th to the end of February 2010.
Koskinen, 39, is among the most recognised of contemporary Finnish designers.
He is probably best known in the public mind for his "Block Lamp", a lightbulb held inside two shaped pieces of clear glass, which is exhibited in MoMA in New York City.
Koskinen has received numerous previous awards for his work.
We shall be carrying an interview with the artist and a larger feature on his work in our weeklies next Tuesday.
