In the current year, Helsinki will be a venue for a total of 52 international congresses. The number of delegates attending the events will be in the region of 23,000.

In the summer of 2010 alone, the Finnish capital will host 34 international congresses, gathering together more than 17,000 participants over the period from May through August.
This year’s largest congress, Euroanaesthesia 2010, the Annual Meeting of the European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA), will take place in the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre between June 12th and 15th.
The Anaesthesiology gathering will bring to the city a total of 6,500 anaesthetists.
The order book going forward doesn't look too bad, either. The European Hematology Association confirmed they will be coming to town in June 2012, and bringing something like 7,000 delegates with them.
With actual tourism and business overnights down by some six percent in 2009 relative to the previous year, local hoteliers and others will be hoping that congress attendances remain buoyant and tourism figures pick up this year.
