"Hey, not so fast!" - dead man starts breathing again in Tampere

 print this
A man who had been pronounced dead by a doctor and paramedics had second thoughts.
The incident took place in Tampere a couple of weeks ago, and according to Tampere police, the man is still alive.
The individual, said to be just under 50 years of age, was found unconscious in Tampere's Keskustori [Central Square]. An ambulance with an emergency physician on board was called, and attempts were made at the scene to resuscitate the victim.

After half an hour, the man's ECG film showed indisputably that his heart had stopped, and the first-response team gave up their efforts after receiving permission to do so from the duty physician at the Tampere University Hospital's A&E Unit.
A police patrol at the scene then called a hearse to take the body to the mortuary. One of the police officers unzipped the body-bag to discover to his surprise that the man had started breathing.
The hearse was rapidly cancelled and the man was rushed instead to hospital in the waiting ambulance.
