Immigrant women are setting up businesses eagerly in Uusimaa
Especially female immigrants are excelling in establishing businesses in the Helsinki area.
Nearly half of all the immigrant businesses are run by women, or are under joint control of women and men.
According to a Uusimaa Regional Council report, in the past three years around 900 new businesses have been set up in the region by people of foreign background.
More than half of the businesses are located in the capital Helsinki.
For the most part, the firms are small one-person businesses or tiny limited liability companies that often employ only members of the family of the founder.
