Industrial action by stevedores shuts down much of Vuosaari harbour
A stoppage by employees of the stevedoring company Finnsteve stopped most activities at Vuosaari Harbour in the east of Helsinki on Friday morning.
The longshoremen walked off the job at 6:00 AM for a 24-hour stoppage aimed at protesting plans for temporary layoffs.
The action came as a complete surprise to Finnsteve, which considers the action an unlawful act.
The company initiated co-determination talks with personnel two weeks ago.
