The police in Finland are taking part in an enhanced campaign of monitoring traffic speeds this week.
A similar theme week is also taking place in the other member states of the European Traffic Police Network (TISPOL).
The surveillance campaign focuses on locations where the incidence of road accidents has been higher than average.
Similarly, the closer monitoring of traffic near schools, launched earlier this month in connection with the start of the new school year, is set to continue.

Speeding is a significant cause of traffic fatalities.
According to some estimates, adhering to speed limits and adjusting one’s situational speed correctly would save thousands of lives in Europe each year.
In Finland the TISPOL campaign is being administered by the National Traffic Police and the Helsinki Police Department.
