More than 100 people have been arrested in an extensive international police operation involving child pornography on the Internet. More than 500 raids were conducted in 19 countries, in an operation led from Spain.
According to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, last week's series of raids also extended to Finland. According to a report on YLE Television News on Saturday, two people in Finland are suspected of involvement in the ring. The National Bureau of Investigation (Finland's central criminal police) would not initially confirm the reports, but on Monday morning it was confirmed that two Finnish citizens are being held. Searches have been carried out in their homes and computers have been taken away for examination.
Police would not disclose the locations, but said that neither lives in the Greater Helsinki area.

The investigators in the Spanish operation used computer software developed by Spanish police which traces the viewers of web sites containing child pornography through the IP addresses of the computers. The raids led to 108 arrests, says the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. In addition to Europe, arrests were made in several Latin American countries, the United States, and in Israel.
