Laura Österberg Kalmari, 30, has signed a contract to play next season for Sky Blue FC, a team from New Jersey playing in the Women's Professional Soccer league.
Striker Österberg Kalmari has previously played professionally in Sweden, but this is a step upwards and onwards.
She will be moving with her husband and daughter to New Jersey next March. The WPS league season runs from the end of March until play-offs in August.
Sky Blue FC finished 4th in the league last season and eventually won the play-offs. The league itself has attracted a number of foreign players, including several from Sweden.
Österberg Kalmari was given an excellent display-window opportunity in the summer when Finland hosted the UEFA Women's European Championships.
She took the opportunity with both feet, scoring twice as Finland progressed to the quarter-finals, and her performances with the Finnish squad in World Cup qualifiers since then have only underlined the fact that she is in great form after recovering from earlier injuries.
She scored a hat-trick in her latest appearance as Finland beat Armenia 7-0 last month to record their fourth straight win in the campaign.
Österberg Kalmari has made 120 appearances for Finland, scoring 36 goals in the process.
