Less than a fifth of all the matches of this spring’s 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships, hosted jointly in Finland and Sweden, will be televised in Finland on free-to-air channels.
The MTV Media company, which controls the TV rights to the games, announced on Wednesday that 12 of the 64 games will be aired on free-of-charge channels.

All the Finland games, as well as the semi-finals and the medal games will be shown on free-to-air channels.
The AVA channel will air five of Finland’s first-round games, Finland quarter-final game, one of the semi-finals, the bronze medal game, and the final. The MTV3 channel will show two of Finland’s preliminary round games and the other semi-final.
The primary television platform for the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships are the Canal+ channels, which require a charge card.
They will air all 64 games live and in high definition.

Today's outdoor game in the Olympic Stadium between Finland and Russia in the European Hockey Tour will be shown on the Canal+ Urheilu channel from 18:25.
