Lloyd Webber’s Starlight Express premieres in Helsinki today

 print this
On its world tour, Starlight Express, a rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber (music) and Richard Stilgoe (lyrics), will premiere in Helsinki today - Thursday. The total number of performances in the short run at the Hartwall Arena will be four, with one performance on Thursday and Friday and two on Saturday.
Starlight Express is a musical adaptation of the Rev W. Awdry's Railway Series books, being performed by actors on roller skates.

One of the longest-running musicals in British theatre history, Starlight Express opened at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre in March 1984, where it played to more than eight million people until its final performance in January 2002.
After the show was technically updated, it went on a world tour.
A few years ago, Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats gathered some 35,000 people to Hartwall Arena. The Arena’s seating capacity for Starlight Express is 45,000, and tickets for all performances are still available.
