Lovers of classical music, with or without a ticket, have a treat in prospect in Helsinki later this week, as the legendary veteran conductor, 81-year-old Lorin Maazel, brings the world-renowned Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra to town for a concert in the new Music Centre on Friday.
The programme will consist entirely of symphonies by Jean Sibelius, with the 7th, 5th, and 1st Symphony being presented.
The event itself is completely sold out, but the Finnish Broadcasting Company's Radio 1 will be transmitting it live, and YLE's classical music department will also have cameras in the hall, and the concert will later be streamed via YLE Areena on the Net.
