The rumours that had been circulating and gathering strength for several days were confirmed on Friday: Madonna is to play a gig in Helsinki in August. It will be the 50-year-old American star's first visit to Finland.
According to Madonna's official website, she will be appearing in Helsinki's Jätkäsaari on Thursday August 6th.
Tickets for the date in the Sticky and Sweet tour will come on sale on February 9th through Lippupiste, and will be priced at between EUR 99 and EUR 109.
The promoters Live Nation have rented a site in the former dockland container storage area in the West Harbour, and it is estimated that it can hold roughly 80,000.
Demand for tickets is expected to be high, and a limit of six per customer will be imposed.
Recently the Lippupiste servers crashed under the weight of demand for tickets to see Bruce Springsteen in Tampere in June.
Madonna's announcement means that Finland will now witness three veteran pop and rock acts this spring and summer, as in addition to Springsteen, Tina Turner will be showing up for two gigs at the Hartwall Arena in April.
The summer leg of Madonna's European tour gets under way in London on July 4th, and will include nearby dates in Oslo (30.7.), Tallinn (4.8.), Gothenburg (9.8.), and Copenhagen (11.8.).
