A man suspected of killing his wife and two young daughters and setting their Helsinki apartment on fire has confessed to police.
Firefighters dispatched to the blaze in the Laajasalo district of Helsinki late Tuesday found the bodies of the man’s wife, and the children, aged 1 and 4. The suspected killer was also in the apartment when the firefighters arrived.

The man is suspected of having stabbed the three and then setting the apartment on fire.
The head of the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Arto Karalahti, said that the man confessed immediately in the first interview at the scene of the crime.

The report of a fire in the three-storey building came at 11:10 in the evening.
The fire was not big, but at the beginning there was much smoke. The stairwell filled with smoke, but neighbouring apartments were not affected by it.
