The Kotka District Court has sentenced a 63-year-old man to two years and ten months' imprisonment for sexual offences with a minor.
The man was also ordered to pay EUR 6,500 in damages to his victim, who at the time of the crimes was 14 years of age. Erkki Juhani Nieminen from the Province of North Karelia was convicted of aggravated sexual exploitation of a child, coerced sexual intercourse, and possession of a sexually immoral image of a child.
The incidents took place in the southern city of Kotka in the summer of 2008.
According to the statement issued by the District Court, the man and the child met each other in an Internet chatroom, where the man posed as an 18-year-old, in other words very significantly younger than his actual age.
The two agreed to meet in Kotka, where the man travelled three times in all.
During the meetings the man took nude photographs of the victim. In connection with the coercion, the man threatened to post publicly on the Internet the images that he had taken.
