Man remanded over arsons in Porvoo admits to setting some of the fires
Police in Porvoo believe that the spate of recent fires (see earlier article) that have troubled local residents has been cleared up, at least in part.
A local man in his early twenties who has been held in police custody has confessed to setting some of the fires. He admits to the arson cases in Pormestarinkatu and at the Näsi health centre, and to setting a fire in a residential building in the historical wooden centre of Porvoo.
The man under remand is not, however, responsible for all the suspicious fires of recent days, since he was in police custory when some of the other buildings went up in flames.
It is thought that there may be a "copycat" arsonist in the town. Early on Sunday morning somebody attempted to set fire to a door in an apartment building on Pormestarinkatu, for example.
