
Man threatens family and shoots police officer in the arm
A man who behaved in a threatening manner towards his family in the Tervakoski area of Janakkala, just south of Hämeenlinna in Southern Finland, shot and wounded a police officer in the early hours of Friday morning.
The injured officer returned fire, wounding the man in the trunk, reports Det. Insp. Pekka Kiiski of the Hämeenlinna Police Department.
Both men’s injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
The Hämeenlinna police were alerted to a man threatening his family with a firearm at 2.40 am this morning. Several units were dispatched to the scene.
While being apprehended, the man shot at one of the arresting officers, wounding him in the arm. In the same instance the officer’s gun went off wounding the man in the side of his trunk, Kiiski explains.
The man’s wife and four children remained unharmed in the incident and are now safe.
