Olli Ainola, the husband of National Coalition Party MP Marja Tiura, announced on Wednesday that he was giving up his post as head of the department of political news at Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE).
Head news editor Jouni Kemppainen said that the furore over Tiura’s election campaign funding and her contacts with Nova Group made it impossible for Ainola to stay on in his position.
“The question is, if Olli would be able to comprehensively lead the political department in all matters”, Kemppainen said to Helsingin Sanomat on Wednesday.
Kemppainen says that Ainola already disqualified himself from involvement in reporting on news, which “dealt with Tiura or the National Coalition Party in a significant way”.
At that time it was also agreed that if the situation with Tiura changes significantly, his position would be reconsidered.
“The way in which Tiura has been brought forward in recent days makes Olli’s situation sufficiently more difficult than before, for the situation to be reconsidered”, Kemppainen says.
On Wednesday Kemppainen did not want to say how Ainola’s spot would be filled, and what Ainola’s new position in YLE would be.
