An SMS text message spread all over Europe on Sunday, in which people were asked to remember the victims of the school siege in Russia by lighting a candle.
Many Finns also received an SMS message: "Light a candle in the window tonight in memory of the children who died in Ossetia".
In Helsinki, there were candles in numerous windows as well as in front of the Russian Embassy.
In Italy, messages of condolence spread already earlier during the day, and thousands of candles could be seen in the windows of homes.
Italy also hurried to provide emergency humanitarian supplies for the injured victims of the school siege. The first load arrived in Beslan on Sunday morning.
