Minea Blomqvist in and out of form on LPGA Tour

Finland's leading female golfer Minea Blomqvist, 22, has been in and out of form in her early-season tournament appearances on the LPGA Tour.
A good example was her showing in last week's Ginn Open at Reunion in Florida, where she had strong sub-par rounds of 69 and 67, but in between them there was a five-over 77, and she slumped to an 80 in her fourth round that dragged her down from 20th overnight to 43rd in the final placings. In that horror-show of a final 18 holes, she also took four bogeys and a double bogey in her last six holes to come back in 42.
This sort of inconsistency has also plagued earlier competitions. She made the cut in the MasterCard Classic in Mexico City only to be disqualified on a rules interpretation.
In her other two appearances she missed the cut because of an inability to put together two decent rounds: at the SBS Open at Turtle Bay, for instance, she recorded an opening 80 that effectively scotched any chance of progressing, even though she played 70 on the second day.
Blomqvist's main targets this season are naturally to perform well in the two biggest majors, the US Open and British Open. Three years ago, she made waves at the age of 19 by scoring the lowest-ever round at the Weetabix British Open, when she fired a 10-under 62. She finished up in a creditable tied 8th place. Even then, however, it could have been so much better but for a catastrophic 6-over 78 on the second day.
Blomqvist had her rookie year on the LPGA in 2006, and before that she played on the Ladies European Tour, where she enjoyed 11 top-20 finishes in 2005, and in 2004 she won the Ladies Central European Open on the LET.
