Finland will need 150,000 new workers by 2020 to replace the workforce that will exit the labour market for retirement in the coming years, reveals a fresh study by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
According to the ministry report, the unemployed, immigrants, and other individuals outside regular working life should be utilised more effectively as workers.
In 2009 only 50 per cent of the foreign-background people of working age were in employment. The employment percentage was highest among those from Finland’s nearby areas, and lowest among those from Africa.
The rate of employment can also be increased by lengthening people’s careers.
