Mobile operators are offering benefits even to current customers
 |
Finnish mobile operators have started to offer deals to their current subscribers, too. Previously, customers were given benefits only when they switched operators.
By offering cost savings, the mobile operators wish to keep their current customers content and to calm down the willingness of their key customers to switch operators.
Fierce competition for customers has compelled some operators to contact the customers who have decided to switch operators, and to persuade them to stay by offering them substantial benefits.
Number portability was implemented in the mobile communications networks 13 months ago, and over one million Finns have switched their mobile operators in the past year while keeping their existing phone numbers.
According to statistics, Sonera - with over 1.5 million subscribers - was still the largest mobile operator in Finland at the end of July. Next came Elisa who had some 1.3 million customers. Among the smaller operators, DNA had over half a million subscribers, while Saunalahti and ACN had about 300,000 each.
Naturally, the mobile operators do not want to end up losing any of their customers, as it is more expensive to find a new subscriber than to keep a current one.
