More than a million use new Nokia mobile e-mail service

The number of users of Nokia’s Ovi e-mail system has exceeded the one-million mark, the company announced on Tuesday.
Using Ovi Mail does not require a computer - a mobile telephone is enough.
The service is aimed especially at residents of developing countries who cannot afford computers. Ovi has allowed many of them to get their first e-mail address.
Ovi Mail is most popular in India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, and South Africa. The service was launched at the end of last year, and it is available in 180 countries.
Services are becoming an increasingly important part of Nokia’s business activities. The company’s competitors in this are Google, Apple, and a number of software companies that are developing Internet services.
For instance, Apple is doing big business with its combination of the popular iPhone and application store. Apple’s own online store has more than 65,000 additional programmes and games that can be used on the iPhone.
Services generally involve better profit margins than network devices. While services are very labour intensive, they do not require massive investments in product development and manufacture.
