NATURE NOTES: Bears not enamoured of "easy listening" stations

NATURE NOTES: Bears not enamoured of "easy listening" stations

The main attractions for the summer bear safari businesses will today (Monday 20.8.) be having a price on their heads, as the bear-hunting season gets under way.
Bear-watching in the forest at Arola was already wound up at the weekend. Entrepreneur Eero Seppänen says he stopped setting out carcasses for the animals in front of the hide a full two days before the hunting season was due to begin.

Seppänen reports that the bears take the hint quickly enough: they vanish as soon as the source of food dries up.
Just in case any of them should fail to get the message, however, Seppänen has a back-up secret weapon.
"I take a transistor radio into the hide, tune in Radio Nova, and crank it up as loud as it will go. That's the sort of channel that not even a greedy bear can stomach listening to", grins Seppänen.
