Natural Born Killers members arrested on suspicion of drug offences

Several members of the criminal organisation Natural Born Killers (NBK) have been arrested on suspicion of running a drug business on a sizeable scale. The drug units of the Helsinki and Espoo police departments have been looking into the case of importation and distribution of amphetamine since last autumn.
      In October the police confiscated four kilograms of amphetamine that was hidden underground in a wooded recreational area in Helsinki's Pirkkola district.
      The substance had been smuggled into Finland from Estonia, and it ended up in the possession of the criminal organisation NBK, who further distributed the goods.
     
Eleven people in all have been arrested in connection with the case, three of whom are actual members of the NBK. One of the arrested is an NBK candidate, while another person belongs to another criminal organisation called the Bats. One of those arrested is a woman.
      Many of the arrested have previous violent crime and drug offence convictions, among other things.
      In conjunction with the preliminary investigation, the police have confiscated several firearms, ammunition, explosives, nearly EUR 100,000 in cash, jewellery worth EUR 30,000, plus small amounts of cocaine, subutex, and hash.
      The preliminary investigation report should be completed within the next few days and the raising of charges has to be decided on within a month.
