New Porsche model to create jobs in Uusikaupunki

 print this
A new Porsche model to be launched this year is expected to improve employment prospects at the Valmet Automotive plant in Uusikaupunki on Finland's West Coast. Porsche issued an announcement about the new car on Wednesday, and confirmed that the majority of the new mid-engined hardtop Cayman models would be built in Uusikaupunki.
The precise date for the start of production and the quantities involved were not specified. In the best scenario, the plant believes that it may be possible to recall around 250 employees who have been laid off.

A deal on the making of the new model, which is to have a 6-cylinder 3.4-litre boxer engine, was signed already back in 2001. The factory has invested some EUR 40 million in gearing up for production of the new model.
Last autumn the second generation of the Porsche Boxster sports convertible was taken into the Valmet Automotive production programme. This already enabled the recall of more than 100 former staff members.
