Jarkko Nieminen and his Swedish doubles partner Robert Lindstedt  were eliminated from the US Open at the quarter-finals stage yesterday by Czech Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes of India (the 7th seeds).
      The Finnish-Swedish pairing went down 3-6, 7-6, 3-6.
It was Lindstedt and Nieminen’s first time in the last eight of a grand slam tournament, something that the Finnish player has managed on a few past occasions in the singles.

The unseeded pair, who upset the world No.1 duo of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in the 3rd round, had held a 4-1 lead in the second set but were pegged back to the tiebreak, which they eventually won comfortably, but that was as good as it got.
Nieminen and Lindstedt are sure to rise in the doubles rankings as a result of their efforts - they were ranked 47th before this tournament.

Henri Kontinen, meanwhile, had the day off on Tuesday but will be in action in the 2nd round of the boys’ singles today (against Dino Marcan of Croatia) and shortly afterwards in the boys’ doubles with partner Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia.
Kontinen, runner-up in the boys' singles at Wimbledon this year, is seeded 4th in the singles and the Finnish-Indonesian partnership are the 2nd seeds in the boys’ doubles, after their win at Roland Garros in Paris.
