Night of the Arts in Helsinki on Friday

Night of the Arts in Helsinki on Friday
 print this
Friday sees the annual Night of the Arts at the Helsinki Festival.
The Night of the Arts, arranged for the first time in 1989, offers more than two hundred mostly free events going on more or less simultaneously in the city centre and out into the suburbs, including outdoor cinema, street theatre, live music, and special programmes in bookstores and museums and galleries, which keep their doors open late.

The programme is too large and diverse to list here, but the Helsinki Festival site gives the details on what is going down, and when and where.
One focus for events will once again be the Töölönlahti Bay area, just north of the Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum.

The largest crowds are likely to be out watching the giant helium-filled sea creatures of the French street theatre company Plasticiens Volants, which will go in procession from the western end of the Esplanade to the Senate Square, before a display in the square that starts at 21:30.
As many as 40,000 people are expected to turn up for the show.
The Night of the Arts is organised in partnership with Helsingin Sanomat.
