The popular phenomenon of "night weddings" without prior booking launched at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Lawrence in Vantaa last September is to be continued. Now a similar occasion is being put forward in the City of Espoo.
The plan is to organise a special night wedding for engaged couples in the Espoo Cathedral on February 12th.
The medieval stone church, which was built in the late 15th century, is the most popular wedding venue in Espoo. It is the seat of the Diocese of Espoo of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland.
Unlike in Vantaa, it will be possible to make a reservation for a wedding on this special night at the office of the Espoo Cathedral congregation or that of the Swedish Esbo Svenska Församling.
Engaged couples can also arrive at the cathedral in the evening without a reservation, provided that they have obtained a so-called certificate of non-impediment one week prior to the occasion at the latest.
A total of around 100 couples from all over Finland were spliced in Vantaa on the special night last September.
Given the likely weather conditions in February, those wishing to tie the knot had better wrap up warm for the occasion.
