Finnish symphonic power metal outfit Nightwish kicked off a world tour in Tel Aviv at the weekend amidst exceptional tension, since the group were introducing to live audiences their new female vocalist Anette Olzon.
In front of an enthusiastic crowd in Israel, which was also getting its first-ever sighting of the band, Olzon gave a competent performance, but has not yet grabbed a place for herself at the centre of proceedings.
She was brought in to replace Tarja Turunen, dramatically sacked from the band in October 2005.
We will have more on the opening of the Nightwish tour in our weeklies tomorrow.
