The United States’ International Trade Commission has announced it has dropped Finnish mobile phone manufacturer Nokia's patent infringement lawsuit against Qualcomm.
The ITC said it was ending its probe into complaints by Nokia that the chip maker had infringed on one of its wireless chip patents.
A judge for the federal agency had recommended the suit be wound up owing to ongoing arbitration between the warring factions. The arbitration commenced already in April, whereas the lawsuit dropped by the ITC was only raised in September.
Nokia had urged the ITC to ban imports into the USA of Qualcomm chips for use in mobile phones that it said infringed on its patents covering performance and energy efficiency.
The dispute is only one of more than a dozen intellectual property lawsuits currently in progress between the two companies on three continents.
As reported by the Reuters news agency, Nokia spokeswoman Laurie Armstrong commented: “Nokia is disappointed in the ruling but the decision is based on the pending arbitration and not on the merits of the case.”
