Number of foreign travellers to Finland declined in August
Fewer foreign tourists visited Finland this August than the year before.
According to Statistics Finland's tourism statistics, there was a 4% drop in the number of overnight stays by foreigners at Finnish hotels and other accommodation establishments.
One slight consolation to the tourism businesses was offered by the nearly 1% increase in overnight stays by domestic travellers.
Compared with August of last year, the number of tourists to Finland dropped from almost every important tourism country. For visitors from Norway, the decrease was a whopping 24 percent.
The only two exceptions were Japan and the United States. Compared with the year before, the number of visitors from these two countries grew significantly.
In all, a total of 647,000 overnight stays by foreign travellers were recorded.
