The impact of the recession on tourism volume in Finland is manifested in the number of overnight stays by travellers, which fell by four per cent in June 2010 compared with a year ago.
According to Statistics Finland, the country’s accommodation businesses recorded a total number of 1.9 million overnight stays in June 2010.
The overnight stays by domestic tourists fell by 5.5 per cent. The corresponding figure for foreign travellers, in turn, grew by three per cent.
In all, 480,000 overnight stays by foreigners were recorded by accommodation businesses in Finland in June.

In June visitors from Estonia spent nearly 16,000 nights in Finland, which indicates a growth rate of 25% compared with a year earlier.
A strong upward trend was also observed in the number of overnight stays by the French and the Americans.
The largest group of foreigners to visit Finland in June were the Germans, with more than 65,000 overnight stays.
Still, the figure is not all good: it marks a reduction by nearly seven per cent from June 2009.
