Katariina Pantila (formerly Lönnqvist), a 28-year-old nurse convicted of murder and attempted murder, was found dead in her cell in Turku Prison on Monday morning.
Pantila had been serving her sentence at the women’s wing of Turku Prison. Police say that the prison’s own nurse, as well as an ambulance crew, and Medi-Heli tried to revive her.

Pantila had been found guilty by the Turku Court of Appeals of using insulin to kill an elderly mentally disabled patient under her care at an institution in Ylöjärvi in 2007.
She was also convicted of using insulin in an attempt to kill the eight-month-old baby of a relative.
The Appeals Court decision kept in force an earlier ruling by Tampere District Court.
Police are investigating the death, which is not believed to involve foul play.
