OMXH Index in Helsinki dips below 10,000 in Monday trading
 |
The OMXH index on the Helsinki Exchange was down by 1.4% in trading on Monday morning and slipped below the psychological 10,000 mark.
By mid-morning the broad index stood at 9,935, and it fell to a low of 9,924.65 before picking up somewhat in the early afternoon to creep over 10,000 once again. The recovery was nevertheless short-lived, and by 3:30 pm. the index was again more than 1% down on the day.
Nokia was off nearly 2% at EUR 21.40, while Rautarukki and construction firm YIT both shed around 5%.
By mid-afternoon the narrower OMX Helsinki 25 index was down 1.35% and was riding at 2657.83, after opening close to 2,700 points
The main reasons for the slide were believed to be fresh concerns about the ailing health of the United States economy and some signs that smaller Finnish investors might be losing their enthusiasm for investment in equities, with a leaning towards moving money into interest-bearing deposit accounts, as noted in another article from today.
Asian bourses were also weaker on Monday, with the Nikkei in Japan reaching its lowest level for two and a half years.
