Appeal launched by pentathlete and swordsman

 print this
More than 10,000 people have signed an online petition calling for a nearly total ban on the possession of handguns.
The petition calls for a change in rules making it illegal for private individuals to possess handguns if they are not essential for their work.

According to the petition, sport shooting can be arranged without the possession of a personal weapon. Air guns would be exempted from the ban.
The petition was initiated by Jan Bade, a member of the Finnish Modern Pentathlon Association and Kimmo Pentikäinen, the chairman of the Finnish Fencing Association.
There are several other online petitions linked with the Kauhajoki tragedy, some of which also have thousands of signatures.
