A work of art in an outdoor exhibition in Espoo has been vandalised.
The work, called Lumme ("Water Lily"), is a green car submerged up to the level of its windows in the Espoo River. It had been part of the ongoing Navetta festival, which began nine days earlier.
The damage was done by stone-throwing vandals. The artist, Ilppo Alho, now has to remove the work, which was to have been on display until mid-September.
Lumme attracted a good deal of attention during the time that it was on display. Several passers-by called the police, reporting what they thought was an accident involving a car that had sunk in the river.
Another work of art in the river, by artist Jonne Pitkänen, has also disappeared. However, it is unclear whether it was stolen or swept away by floodwaters.
The remainder of the 16 works of art in the exhibition will be on display until September 12.
