Born in 1961 in Haifa, Israel, into a Palestinian family of Christian background.
Native language Arabic, second language Hebrew. Also speaks Finnish, English, and Italian.
Moved to Finland in 1981.
Studied in the universities of Haifa and Helsinki. Graduated as Master of Arts from the School of Applied Art in 1992.
Has worked previously as a radio and television journalist, produced documentaries, and taught at the Helsinki Polytechnic Stadia.
