Paperworkers’ Union President Jouko Ahonen is to remain suspended from his post at least through late January. At that time the union is to decide on whether or not he can return to his job.
On Wednesday, the union decided to suspend Ahonen, who had angered much of the rank and file of the union with his statements defending lavish benefits for directors of pension insurance companies.
The executive committee of the Paperworkers’ Union decided unanimously to suspend Ahonen for the time being. The union’s leadership ruled out the possibility of immediate termination, however.
The aim is to have a cooling off period. The union insists that it will be able to function under the arrangements.
Taking over Ahonen’s duties will be union secretary Petri Vanhala.
