Petri Kokko, Country Manager of Google Finland & Sweden, has been appointed to a global director position at Googleplex, the head offices of the search engine company in California.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kokko noted that Google has two strengths: technology and people, and that his task is to concentrate on people, to find the best talent, and to get more out of the best people.
Kokko was appointed to the position of Country Manager for Google Finland three years ago.
Petri Kokko first achieved fame in Finland as a figure skater. In 1995 Kokko and his partner (now his wife) Susanna Rahkamo won the European Championships in Ice Dancing, and also took a silver medal at the World Championships. Kokko and Rahkamo have two children.
Replacing Kokko as country manager will be Anni Ronkainen, who has been responsible for the company’s big clients in Finland. She will take up her new post in December.
Google personnel numbers are set to increase in Finland next year, when a server centre starts operations in Hamina.
Google’s brand is one of the most valuable in the world. The company’s turnover rose by 31 per cent last year to 22 billion US dollars. Profits were 4.2 billion, which was 19% more than a year earlier.
